.

Major/Year:

I am a first-year student majoring in biomedical engineering on the Pre-Dental track.

Why did you decide to join BMES?

I decided to join BMES because I wanted to meet many new people and dive deeper into my major of Biomedical engineering. As a first-year student, the transition from high school has been at times difficult with online classes but through organizations like BMES, I have been able to smoothen the transition and meet so many wonderful people!

What has been your favorite event?

My favorite event so far has to have been the GBM #4. It was so much fun! We played so many games together and I was able to really meet the board and other members. It was a great way to unwind after a hard day of school. To be honest, I’ve enjoyed all of the BMES events I’ve attended so I would highly recommend coming out and attending an event even if you don’t major in BME!

Major and Year:
I am a senior in Biomedical Engineering with a concentration in Neural Engineering and a minor in Kinesiology. I am a first-generation college student with goals to get my Master’s degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics and become a licensed prosthetist. In my free time, I like watching space documentaries, crocheting, and taking long walks downtown.
Why did you decide to join BMES?
I decided to join BMES because I really wanted to join a community interested in Biomedical Engineering! BME research has always been such an interesting field to me, especially in terms of rehabilitation engineering and finding ways to make assistive technology more efficient and comfortable for users. I really like how BMES is a group dedicated to such a broad, interesting field. It’s also a great way to make new friends and get to know your peers better outside of class!
What was your favorite BMES event?
I really enjoyed going to the virtual BMES national conference, which UIC BMES helped me to do! I learned so much about current research in the field and am very thankful for that opportunity. I also really like the You and ME in BME Mentorship Program! As a mentor, it’s a great way to practice leadership, make new friends, and be more involved.

Major/Year:
I am a junior studying Biochemistry.
Why did you decide to join BMES?
I decided to join BMES as a way to get involved with Bioengineering and network with people with similar interests. After watching Harvard lectures during the pandemic, I thought about changing my major to BME, but I will think about doing it on a Masters’s track. I am interested in the field of Biotechnology, so BMES was a natural choice for me since Bioengineering is a topic that relates heavily to my interest in Biotech. It is very interesting to see how healthcare technologies develop and I have a feeling that it’ll be the focal point going forward in this century in the same way digital technology is now.
What has been your favorite event?
My favorite event so far in BMES has been the guest lectures. Hearing from researchers is very interesting and inspirational since research is something that I’ve always wanted to do.
